Après ça, chaque jour fut pareil au suivant pour Raiponce. Elle nettoyait sa chambre au sommet de la tour. Elle tressait ses très longs cheveux.
After that, every day was the same as the next for Rapunzel. She cleaned her room at the top of the tower. She plaited her very long hair.
Chaque jour à l’heure du déjeuner, la sorcière se rendait à la tour. Elle se tenait sous la fenêtre et criait : « RAIPONCE ! RAIPONCE ! LANCE-MOI TES CHEVEUX ! »
Every day at lunchtime, the witch came to the tower. She stood under the window and shouted: "RAPUNZEL! RAPUNZEL! THROW ME YOUR HAIR!"
Raiponce lançait ses cheveux par la fenêtre. La sorcière grimpait sur ses cheveux comme sur une corde et passait par la fenêtre.
Rapunzel threw her hair out the window. The witch climbed up her hair like a rope, and came in through the window.
Elle apprit à Raiponce comment fabriquer des remèdes avec des herbes. Et Raiponce aimait la sorcière. La sorcière était sa seule amie.
She taught Rapunzel how to make medicines with herbs. And Rapunzel loved the witch. The witch was her only friend.
Une nuit, Raiponce lisait un livre près de la fenêtre lorsqu’elle entendit quelqu’un en-bas :
« RAIPONCE ! RAIPONCE ! LANCE-MOI TES CHEVEUX ! »
One night, Rapunzel was reading a book by the window when she heard someone below:
"RAPUNZEL! RAPUNZEL! THROW ME YOUR HAIR!"
« C’est étrange, » pensa-t-elle. « La sorcière ne vient jamais aussi tard. »
Elle lança ses cheveux par la fenêtre et la personne grimpa, plus haut, plus haut.
"That's strange," she thought. "The witch never comes so late." She threw her hair out the window and the person climbed up, up, up (higher, higher).
Mais lorsque la personne arriva en haut, Raiponce vit que ce n’était pas la sorcière. C’était un homme !
But when the person arrived at the top, Rapunzel saw that it wasn't the witch. It was a man!
Raiponce saisit rapidement son livre et frappa l’homme sur la tête. « Sortez ! Sortez ! Vous n’êtes pas la sorcière ! »
L’étranger tomba au sol. « Aïe ! Aïe ! Arrêtez de me faire mal ! » supplia-t-il.
Rapunzel quickly grabbed her book and hit the man on the head.
"Get out! Get out! You're not the witch!"
The stranger fell to the ground. "Ow! Ow! Stop hurting me!" he begged.
« Qui êtes-vous ? Que voulez-vous ? Pourquoi avez-vous grimpé sur mes cheveux ? » demanda Raiponce.
« Je suis Justin ! Je m’appelle Justin ! » gémit-il. « Je suis venu vous sauver... ? »
"Who are you? What do you want? Why did you climb my hair?" demanded Rapunzel.
"I'm Justin! My name is Justin!" he whimpered. "I came here to save you...?"
Comme vous pouvez l’imaginer, Raiponce n’était pas vraiment impressionnée.
« Dites-moi Justin — », gronda Raiponce, « — Est-ce que j’ai l’air d’avoir besoin qu’on me sauve ? »
As you can imagine, Rapunzel was not very impressed.
"Tell me, Justin — " growled Rapunzel, "— Does it look like I need to be saved?"
« Je suis désolé. » dit Justin. « Je pensais que ce serait ma chance d’être un héros. »
« Que voulez-vous dire ? » demanda Raiponce.
"I'm sorry. I thought that this was my chance to be a hero."
"What do you mean?" asked Rapunzel.
« Ma chance d’être un héros ! Chaque homme doit être un héros au moins une fois dans sa vie. C’est la seule façon de vivre heureux jusqu’à la fin des temps. »
"My chance to be a hero! Every man needs to be a hero at least one time in his life. It's the only way to live happily ever after (happily until the end of time)."
Raiponce posa son livre.
« Je n’ai pas besoin d’un héros », dit-elle gentiment. « Allez-vous-en. Allez être un héros ailleurs. Il est tard. Je veux me coucher. »
Raiponce lança sa chevelure par la fenêtre.
Rapunzel put down her book.
"I don't need a hero," she said gently. "Go away. Go be a hero elsewhere. It's late. I want to go to bed."
Rapunzel threw her hair out the window.
« Eh bien, puis-je revenir pour vous parler demain ? » demanda Justin. « Vous avez l’air d’être gentille. Je vous ai amené une corde. C’est mieux que d’utiliser vos cheveux pour monter et descendre de la tour. »
"Well, can I come back to talk to you tomorrow?" Justin asked. "You seem to be nice. I brought you a rope. It's better than using your hair to get in and out of the tower."
« Bien, bien », dit Raiponce. « Au revoir Justin. » Et Justin passa par la fenêtre et descendit le long des cheveux de Raiponce.
"Fine, fine," said Rapunzel. "Goodbye, Justin." And Justin went out the window and climbed down Rapunzel's hair.
