Le vent et le soleil se disputent.
« Je suis le plus puissant ! » dit le vent.
« Non, c’est moi le plus puissant ! » dit le soleil.

Translate?

The wind and the sun have an argument.
“I am the most powerful!” says the wind.
“No, I am the most powerful!” says the sun.

Translate?

“With my blow(ing), I can knock down trees!” brags the wind. I can push ships across a whole ocean! I can create hurricanes and tornadoes!”

« Oh, vraiment ? »

Translate?

“Oh really?” replies the sun. “Well me, I can (make) melt huge piles of snow. I can dry up a whole pond. I can make a sidewalk so hot that one would cook an egg on (it)!"

Translate?

At that moment, they see a man who walks along the road with a winter jacket.

Translate?

“Let’s have a contest to see who is the most powerful”, says the wind. “The first who removes that man’s jacket wins (literally: has won).”

Translate?

The sun agrees.
The wind starts. He blows a gust of cold wind on the man.

L’homme frissonne et ferme sa veste.
« Brrr ! Quelle journée froide et venteuse ! »

Translate?

The man shivers and closes his jacket.
“Brrr! What a cold and windy day!”

Translate?

It starts to rain. The wind blows even harder and transforms the rain into snow.

Translate?

“Oh my! It’s snowing!” says the man. “But the weather forecast didn’t mention (literally: announce) any snow…” He pulls his hood over his head.

Translate?

The wind blows then his most powerful gust on the man, but the man’s jacket stays where it is. (Literally: stays in place.)

« Brrr !

Translate?

“Brrr! It seems that a winter storm is approaching,” says the man. He pulls his jacket’s zip (all the way) up to his nose.

« Aaargh !
« A mon tour ! » dit le soleil.

Translate?

“Arrgg! It is not possible” says the wind. He stops blowing.
“My turn!” says the sun.

Translate?

First, the sun shines strongly enough to make the snow stop. The man removes his hood.

Translate?

Then the sun pierces the clouds and shines pleasantly above the man. All of a sudden, it’s a beautiful spring day.

« Ouah ! Le temps est vraiment étrange par ici ! » dit l’homme. Il ouvre entièrement sa veste.

Translate?

“Wow! The weather is really strange around here!” says the man. He opens his jacket entirely.

Translate?

The sun gently wiggles his fingers and makes the temperature go up again.

Translate?

“What strange weather! It's like (literally: One would believe oneself* in) summer now!” says the man as he starts sweating. “It is so hot!”

Translate?

He removes his winter jacket. He lies down on the grass for a nap in the sun.
“I won!” says the sun, beaming.

Translate?

Moral: Sometimes it is not strength that does (it) all. Sometimes one accomplishes more by being kind and gentle.
