Es waren einmal drei Ziegenböcke. Sie lebten in den Bergen, in einem kleinen Ziegendorf namens Ziegenstadt.
There once were three billy goats. They lived in the mountains, in a little goat-village called Goatstown.
Die drei Ziegen waren Brüder, aber sie waren sehr unterschiedlich. Der jüngste Bruder war der Kleinste, der mittlere Bruder war der Dickste, und der älteste Bruder war der Stärkste.
The three goats were brothers, but they were very different. The youngest brother was the smallest, the middle brother was the fattest, and the oldest brother was the strongest.
Wie Ihr wahrscheinlich wisst, fressen Ziegen ständig Gras. Gras zum Frühstück. Gras zum Mittag. Gras zum Abendessen. (Manchmal essen sie Schokoladenkuchen zum Dessert, aber normalerweise fressen sie einfach noch mehr Gras.)
As you probably know, goats eat grass all the time. Grass for breakfast. Grass for lunch. Grass for dinner. (Sometimes they eat chocolate cake for dessert, but usually they just eat more grass.)
Im Sommer gab es viel hohes, grünes Gras in Ziegenstadt. Aber im Winter waren die Berge mit Schnee bedeckt und Gras gab es nirgendwo.
In the summer, there was lots of tall, green grass in Goatstown. But in the winter, the mountains were covered in snow, and there was no grass anywhere.
Also entschieden sich die drei Ziegen, den Berg hinunter zu laufen und das hohe, grüne Gras auf den Wiesen oder auf der anderen Seite der Stadt zu suchen.
So the three goats decided to go down from the mountain and find the tall, green grass in the meadow on the other side of town.
Sie liefen über den Weg (klipp-klapp, klipp-klapp),
… durch das Dorf (klipp-klapp, klipp-klapp),
…und über den Teich (plitsch-platsch, plitsch-platsch),
… bis sie an einer langen Brücke ankamen.
They went across the road (clip clop, clip clop),
... through the village (clip clop, clip clop),
… and across the pond (splish, splash, splish, splash),
… until they arrived at a long bridge.
Auf der anderen Seite der Brücke wuchs das höchste, grünste Gras, das die Ziegen je gesehen hatten. Sie stampften mit ihren Füßen und wackelten mit ihren Schwänzen. Lecker, lecker! Gras!
On the other side of the bridge grew the tallest, greenest grass that the goats had ever seen. They stomped (with) their feet and wiggled (with) their tails. Yum, yum! Grass!
Aber die Brücke war sehr lang und sehr schmal. Immer nur eine Ziege konnte sie überqueren.
„Hey, Leute, lasst mich zuerst gehen!", sagte die jüngste Ziege. „Ich bin der Kleinste und Schnellste. Ich werde sehen, ob die Brücke sicher ist!"
But the bridge was very long and very narrow. Only one goat could cross it at a time. (Literally: Always just one goat)
"Hey, guys, let me go first!" said the youngest goat. "I am the smallest and the fastest. I will see if the bridge is safe!"
„Wenn Du willst", sagten die anderen Ziegen, und die jüngste Ziege machte sich auf, die Brücke zu überqueren.
"If you want," said the other goats, and the youngest goat began to cross the bridge.
