Der Wind und die Sonne streiten sich
„Ich bin der Stärkste!“, sagt der Wind.
Nicht so stark wie ich!, sagt die Sonne.

Translate?

The wind and the sun are arguing.
„I am the strongest!“ says the Wind.
„Not as strong as me!” says the Sun.

Ich kann ganze Wälder umpusten!“, prahlt der Wind. Dank mir fahren Segelschiffe um die ganze Welt! Ich mache Wirbelstürme und Tornados!“

Translate?

“I can blow down entire forests!” brags the wind. "Thanks to me, sailing ships sail all over the world! I make hurricanes and tornadoes!”

„Ach ja?“, antwortet die Sonne. „Na, ich kann den Schnee von den Alpen herunter schmelzen, und ganze Seen austrocknen lassen. Ich kann den Asphalt so heiß machen, dass man ein Ei darauf braten kann!“

Translate?

“Oh, really?” replies the Sun. “Well, I can melt (down) the snow on the Alps, and dry up whole lakes. I can make the asphalt so hot that you can fry an egg on it!”

Genau in diesem Moment sehen die zwei einen Mann, der in seiner Winterjacke die Straße entlang geht.

Translate?

At this very moment the two see a man walking down the road in his winter jacket.

„Lass uns einen Wettkampf machen, um zu sehen, wer stärker ist!“, sagt der Wind. „Wer dem Mann die Jacke auszieht, gewinnt!“

Translate?

“Let’s have a contest to see who is stronger!” says the wind. “Whoever takes off the man’s jacket wins!”

Die Sonne stimmt zu.
Der Wind ist zuerst dran. Mit einer kräftigen Windböe will er dem Mann die Jacke fortpusten.

Translate?

The Sun agrees.
The Wind goes first. With a strong gust of wind he tries (literally: wants) to blow off the man’s jacket.

Der Mann zittert und zieht sich die Jacke zu.
„Brrr! Was für ein kalter und windiger Tag!“

Translate?

The man shivers and zips (literally: pulls) up the jacket.
“Brrr! What a cold and windy day!”

Es fängt an zu regnen. Der Wind pustet noch stärker und macht den Regen zum Schnee.

Translate?

It starts to rain. The Wind blows even harder and turns the rain to snow.

„Na sowas! Es schneit!“, sagt der Mann. „Das war heute nicht im Wetterbericht…“
Er zieht die Kapuze über den Kopf.

Translate?

“Well look at that! (Literally: “Well so what!” — very common expression) It’s snowing!" says the man. "That wasn’t in the weather report today...”
He pulls the hood over his head.

Der Wind bläst dem Mann einen Sturm entgegen, aber die Jacke des Mannes bleibt, wo sie ist.
„Brr! Ganz schön frisch!“, sagt der Mann. Er zieht sich die Jacke bis über die Nase.

Translate?

The Wind blows a storm against the man, but the man’s jacket stays where it is.
"Brr! Pretty fresh!" says the man. He zips his jacket up over his nose.

„Bah! Hat keinen Zweck!“, hustet der Wind und hört auf zu pusten.
„Jetzt bin ich dran!“, sagt die Sonne.

Translate?

“Gah! It’s no use! (literally: "there’s no point!”) coughs the Wind, and (he) stops blowing.
„Now it's my turn!” says the sun.

Zuerst scheint die Sonne gerade genug, dass der Schnee aufhört. Der Mann zieht sich die Kapuze vom Kopf.

Translate?

First the sun shines just enough for the snow to stop. The man pulls the hood off his head.

Dann treibt die Sonne die Wolken auseinander und scheint sanft auf den Mann herab. Plötzlich ist ein schöner Frühlingstag!

Translate?

Then the Sun drives the clouds apart and he shines gently down on the man. Suddenly, it is a beautiful spring day!

„Wow. Das Wetter ist schon komisch hier!“, sagt der Mann. Er macht die Jacke auf.

Translate?

“Wow. The weather is really strange here!” says the man. He opens his jacket.

Die Sonne winkt mit dem Finger und erhöht die Temperatur.

Translate?

The Sun waves (with) her finger and increases the temperature.

„Was für ein verrücktes Wetter! Jetzt ist es wie Sommer!“, wundert sich der Mann, während er zu schwitzen anfängt. „Es ist zu heiß!“

Translate?

“What crazy weather! Now it feels like summer!” the man says in wonder as he begins to sweat. "It's so hot!"

Da zieht er die Jacke aus! Er legt sich auf den Rasen, um in der warmen Sonne ein Nickerchen zu machen.

Translate?

Then he takes off his jacket! He lies down on the grass in the warm sun to have a nap.

„Ich bin die Gewinnerin!“, ruft die Sonne und strahlt.

Translate?

"I am the winner!*" exclaims the Sun, and beams*.

* "die Gewinnerin" = feminine version of the word. A male character would be der Gewinner
+ Note: Like “beams” in English, “strahlen” is used for both “to shine/radiate” and “to have a big smile”.
