Ein Mädchen sitzt am Schlafzimmerfenster und schaut auf die Straße. Sie wartet auf den Sommer.
A girl sits at her bedroom window and looks at the street. She is waiting (literally: waits) for summer.
Sie will Eis essen und schwimmen gehen. Sie will ein Picknick mit Erdbeeren.
She wants to eat ice cream and go swimming. She wants a picnic with strawberries.
Sie hat Daunenjacken und Handschuhe satt. Sie hat den grauen Himmel und den Schneematsch satt.
She is tired of down jackets and gloves. She is tired of grey skies and slushy snow.
Ihre Mutter sagt, dass der Sommer weit weg ist. Ihr Vater sagt, dass noch mehr Schnee kommt.
Her mother says that the summer is far away. Her father says that more snow is coming.
Jetzt sitzt sie am Fenster und sucht nach einem Zeichen, ob vielleicht doch der Sommer kommt.
Still, she sits by the window, looking for a sign that summer might be coming.
Genau in diesem Moment fährt ein Eiswagen die Straße hinunter.
At this very moment, an ice cream truck drives down the street.
„Ein Eiswagen! Das MUSS heißen, es wird Sommer!“, lacht sie.
“An ice cream truck! That MUST mean it’s summer!” she laughs.
Sie rennt zum Schrank und holt ihren Badeanzug hervor, zieht ihn an und setzt sich ihren Sommerhut auf.
She runs to her closet and takes out her swimsuit, puts it on, and puts on her summer hat.
Sie rennt die Treppe hinunter und aus der Tür hinaus und…
She runs down the stairs and out the door and…
KNIRSCH!
Sie schaut hinab und sieht ihre nackten Füße… im matschigen Schnee.
CRUNCH!
She looks down and sees her bare feet….in the mushy snow.
„Aber… aber der Eiswagen!“, ruft sie und versteht die Welt nicht mehr.
“But… but the ice cream truck!” she cries, totally confused. (literally: “and understands the world no more” — a common expression).
Als sie aufschaut, sieht sie, wie der Eiswagen um die Ecke biegt und in die Autowerkstatt fährt.
As she looks up she sees the ice cream truck turn the corner and drive into the auto repair shop.
Moral: Zieh keine voreiligen Schlüsse! Ein Eiswagen macht noch keinen Sommer!
Moral: Don’t jump to conclusions! (Literally: Don’t draw hasty conclusions) One ice cream truck does not make it summer.
