Dopo aver camminato tutta la notte, Raperonzolo ritrovò la strada verso casa. Ma la torre non c’era più! Restava solo un cerchio bruciato nel terreno.
“Oh, noooooo!” gridò Raperonzolo e cadde a terra in lacrime.
After walking all night, Rapunzel found her way home. But the tower was gone! All that was left was a burned circle on the ground.
"Oh no!" cried Rapunzel, and she fell to the ground in tears.
Ma poi sentì una voce provenire da dietro alcuni alberi.
“Salve? C’è nessuno? Potete aiutarmi? Non ci vedo. Non vedo niente.”
But then she heard a voice coming from behind some trees.
"Hello? Is anyone there? Can you help me? I can't see. I can't see anything."
Era Cristian. Quando Raperonzolo vide che era cieco, sapeva cosa fare. “Resta là,” disse.
It was Cristian. When Rapunzel saw that he was blind, she knew what to do.
"Stay here," she said.
Raperonzolo corse nella foresta alla ricerca di alcune erbe. Raccolse le erbe, preparò una medicina, e poi la mise sugli occhi di Cristian.
E poi Raperonzolo ricominciò a piangere.
Rapunzel ran into the forest in search of some herbs. She gathered the herbs, prepared a medicine, and then put it on Cristian's eyes. And then Rapunzel began to cry again.
“Ti prego, non piangere…” disse Cristian con dolcezza. “Perché piangi?”
“La mia casa è sparita. La mia unica amica è sparita. Tu sei cieco – è un macello!”
"Please don't cry..." said Cristian softly. "Why are you crying?"
"My house is gone. My only friend has disappeared. You are blind — this is a mess!"
“Andrà tutto bene,” disse Cristian. “Fidati di me — sono un eroe!”
"Everything will be fine," said Cristian. "Trust me — I'm a hero!"
Campeggiarono per tre giorni nella foresta. Raperonzolo preparava la medicina per gli occhi di Cristian. Cristian le raccontava di tutte le volte in cui aveva provato a fare l’eroe.
They camped for three days in the forest. Rapunzel prepared medicine for Cristian's eyes. Cristian told her about all the times (in which) he had tried to be a hero:
Aveva provato a combattere contro un gigante, ma il gigante era molto gentile e lo aveva invitato a prendere il tè.
He had tried to fight a giant, but the giant was very kind and invited him to have tea.
Aveva provato a uccidere un drago, ma il drago aveva dei piccoli nel nido. Cristian non se la sentiva proprio di farlo.
He had tried to kill a dragon, but the dragon had little ones (babies) in its nest. Cristian didn't feel like doing it.
Salvò un gatto da un albero, ma il gatto risalì subito su.
“È davvero difficile fare l’eroe!” si lamentò.
He saved a cat from a tree, but the cat immediately climbed back up.
"It's really hard to be a hero!" he complained.
Quando a Raperonzolo veniva da piangere, Cristian le raccontava delle barzellette e la faceva ridere. Quando Raperonzolo non riusciva a dormire, Cristian la ascoltava mentre gli raccontava tutte le sue preoccupazioni.
When Rapunzel wanted to cry, Cristian told her jokes and made her laugh. When Rapunzel couldn't sleep, Cristian listened to her as she told him all her worries.
Il quarto giorno, Raperonzolo si svegliò e vide che Cristian era già in piedi. La guardava con i suoi brillanti occhi blu. Ci vedeva!
“Grazie, mia bellissima amica,” disse. “Mi hai aggiustato gli occhi.”
The fourth day, Rapunzel woke up and saw that Cristian was already up. He looked at her with his bright blue eyes. He could see!
"Thank you, my beautiful friend," he said. "You fixed my eyes."
Cristian e Raperonzolo camminarono fino al villaggio di Cristian. A Raperonzolo piaceva quel villaggio. Cristian la aiutò a costruire una nuova torre —una con le scale. Raperonzolo passava le giornate a preparare medicine per i malati del villaggio.
Cristian and Rapunzel walked to Cristian's village. Rapunzel liked the village. Cristian helped her build a new tower — one with stairs! Rapunzel spent her days making medicines for the sick (people) of the village.
Cristian era mai riuscito a fare l’eroe? Ma certo! Ci sono molti tipi di eroi. Ma gli eroi migliori e più coraggiosi sono quelli che aiutano i loro amici quando sono in difficoltà. E Cristian aveva aiutato la sua amica Raperonzolo.
Did Cristian ever manage to become a hero? Of course! There are many types of heroes. But the best and bravest heroes are those who help their friends through difficult times (when they are in trouble). And Cristian had helped his friend Rapunzel.
Alla fine, Cristian e Raperonzolo vissero per sempre felice e contenti – proprio come aveva promesso la strega.
In the end, Cristian and Rapunzel lived happily ever after — just as the witch had promised.
