“¡Qué ridículo!” se enfureció. “¡No puedo convertir paja en oro! ¡Es imposible!”

Night fell. Sofia was angry.
"How ridiculous!" she fumed. "I can't change straw into gold! It's impossible!"

Justo entonces escuchó una risita extraña.
“¡Ji, ji, ji! ….¿Qué tienes para mí?”

Just then she heard a strange giggle...
"Hee hee hee... What do you have for me?"

A jumping dwarf* appeared in a corner of the room. He was very small. He had curly brown hair, a black hat, and red pointed shoes.

* A normal dwarf is un enano. This seems to be a specialised variety of dwarf.

He hopped towards Sofia. (He gave a few little jumps and approached Sofia.)
"Do you need help, dear?"
asked the jumping dwarf.
"I need to turn this straw into gold," sighed Sofia. "It's ridiculous! It's impossible!"

“Ah, es posible”, dijo el enano saltarín. “Puedo hacerlo por ti…”
“¡Sí! ¡Por favor, ayúdame!” rogó Sofía.

"Ah, it's possible," said the jumping dwarf. "I can do it for you..."
"Yes! Please help me!" begged Sofia.

The jumping dwarf took two knitting needles from his pocket and began to knit clothes with the straw. As the straw passed through his needles, it became beautiful golden thread.

He knitted golden scarves. He knitted golden hats and socks. Soon there was no more straw. There was a pile of golden clothes on the floor.
"And now, what do you have for me?" asked the jumping dwarf.

"Perfect," said the jumping dwarf. "I need a diamond necklace."
Sofia gave her necklace to the jumping dwarf. He said "hee hee hee!" and jumped away.

¿Cómo has hecho esto?” preguntó.

The next morning, the king returned to the room. He opened the door and could not believe what he saw.
"Is this a trick? How did you do this?" he demanded.

"I told you!" interrupted Sofia's father. "My daughter is incredible. Her mother was the same—"
"STOP LYING!" shouted the king. "Sofia, come with me, please."

The king led Sofia to another room. Inside it were TEN bundles of straw.
"If you did it once, you can do it again," said the king. "It has to be done by tomorrow morning... And this time I'll lock the door! (close the door with key!)"

Everyone left. Sofia was alone. And the door was locked (closed with key).
"Oh, for the love of God," said Sofia.

Esta vez, Sofía supo qué hacer.
Miró alrededor de la habitación. Miró hacia arriba y miró hacia abajo.
“¿Enano saltarín? ¿Enano saltarín? ¿Estás por aquí?”

This time, Sofia knew what to do.
She looked around the room. She looked up and she looked down.
"Jumping dwarf? Jumping dwarf? Are you here?"
