There was once a hat maker who was rich. He told a lot of lies. But he was so rich that nobody cared when he lied.
"Oh, he's just kidding!" everyone laughed.

The rich man loved going to dances with other rich people. The rich people who attended the dances told lies to each other.

"My husband shot a turkey three kilometers away ..."(at a distance of three kilometers) said a rich woman.
"My son is so smart that he teaches his teachers!" said a rich man.
"My cat is so clever that he fetches balls like a dog!" said another rich woman.

The hat maker wanted to join the conversation, so he told his biggest lie yet (until this moment):
"My daughter is so wonderful, that she can turn straw into gold!"

Todos los ricos asintieron y sonrieron.
“Sí”, dijeron. “Qué maravilla”.

All the rich people nodded and smiled:
"Yes," they said. "How wonderful."

Suddenly a voice was heard at the back of the room.
"SHE CAN TURN STRAW INTO GOLD?"
He was the king! As he walked towards the hat maker, everyone gaped (was left open-mouthed) and bowed before him.

"DID YOU SAY THAT SHE CAN TURN STRAW INTO GOLD?"
"Err... well... what I meant was ... errr... yes?" stammered the hat maker.

“¡TRÁEME A TU HIJA!

"BRING ME YOUR DAUGHTER! BRING HER TO ME!" the king roared, and left the room, furious.
"Oh goodness, (it can't be)" thought the hat maker. "And now what do I do?"

The next morning, the hat maker took his daughter, Sofia, to a small room in the palace.
Sofia was very confused.
"Why am I here? Father? What's going on?"

Translate?

"Your father is a liar," explained the king. "Last night he said you could turn straw into gold. I think that is a lie! And I HATE liars!"

Translate?

"Here you have bundle of straw," said the king. "Please turn it into gold. You have (you have time) until tomorrow morning."

Sofia's jaw dropped open.
"Oh and one more thing," said the king. "If you fail, your father will be breakfast for my crocodiles. I HATE liars..."

Luego todos se fueron. Sofía estaba sola.
“No puede ser”, pensó. “¿Y ahora qué hago?”

Everyone left. Sofia was alone.
"Oh dear (It can't be)," thought Sofia. "And now what do I do?"
