El viento y el sol están discutiendo.
“¡Yo soy el más poderoso!” grita el viento.
“¡No, yo soy el más poderoso!” dice el sol
The wind and the sun are arguing.
“I am the most powerful!” yells the wind.
“No, I am the most powerful!” says the sun.
“¡Yo puedo tumbar árboles!” presume el viento. “¡Yo puedo impulsar los barcos en el océano! ¡Yo puedo crear huracanes y tornados!”
“I can knock down trees!” boasts the wind. “I can push ships across the ocean! I can create hurricanes and tornadoes!”
“¿En serio?” responde el sol. “Pues, yo puedo derretir grandes montones de nieve. Y yo puedo secar un estanque entero. ¡Yo puedo hacer que haga tanto calor que las ranas lleven cantimploras!”
“Oh really?” replies the sun. “Well, I can melt big piles of snow. And I can dry up a whole pond. I can make it so hot that frogs carry water bottles!”
En ese momento, ven a un hombre caminando que lleva su chaqueta de invierno.
Just then, they see a man walking by wearing his winter jacket.
”Apostemos quién es el más poderoso”, dice el viento. “El que pueda quitarle la chaqueta a el hombre, gana”.
“Let’s have a contest to see who is the most powerful,” says the wind. “Whoever can get the jacket off the man, wins.”
El sol acepta la apuesta.
Empieza el viento y sopla una ráfaga de viento frío hacia el hombre.
The sun agrees to the contest.
The wind begins, and blows a gust of cold wind towards the man.
El hombre tirita de frío y cierra su cremallera.
“¡Qué frío! ¡Qué viento hace hoy!”
The man shivers with cold, and closes his zipper.
“How cold! How windy today!”
Empieza a llover. El viento sopla más fuerte y convierte la lluvia en nieve.
It starts to rain. The wind blows stronger and turns the rain into snow.
”¡Mira nada más, está nevando! No había nieve en el pronóstico del tiempo hoy...” dice el hombre, mientras se cubre la cabeza con su capucha.
“Just look at that, it’s snowing! There was no snow in the weather forecast today…” says the man, as he pulls his hood over his head.
El viento sopla su ráfaga más poderosa hacia el hombre pero su chaqueta se queda en su sitio.
The wind blows his strongest gust towards the man, but his jacket stays where it is.
“¡Qué frío!" dice el hombre. “¡Una tormenta invernal se aproxima!”
Se cierra su chaqueta totalmente y se cubre la nariz.
“How cold!” says the man. “A winter storm is approaching!”
He closes his jacket completely and covers his nose.
”¡Caramba! ¡Esto es imposible!” dice el viento y deja de soplar.
”Mi turno”, dice el sol.
“Holy moly! This is impossible!” says the wind and stops blowing.
“My turn!” says the sun.
Primero, el sol brilla lo suficiente como para detener la nieve y el hombre se quita la capucha.
First, the sun shines bright enough to stop the snow, and the man removes his hood.
Después, el sol despeja el cielo y alumbra suavemente al hombre. De repente, es un día primaveral hermoso.
Then the sun clears the sky and gently shines on the man. Suddenly it’s a beautiful spring day.
“¡Huy! ¡El clima está muy raro por aquí!” dice el hombre y baja su cremallera.
“Boy! The weather is so weird around here!” says the man and he unzips his zipper.
El sol dulcemente mueve sus dedos y aumenta la temperatura.
The sun gently moves his fingers and raises the temperature.
“¡Qué clima más extraño! ¡Ahora parece verano!” dice el hombre mientras empieza a sudar. “¡Hace mucho calor!”
“What strange weather! Now it seems like summer!” says the man as he starts to sweat. “It’s so hot!”
Se quita la chaqueta y se acuesta en el prado para tomar una siesta bajo el cálido sol.
He takes off his jacket and lies down in the grass to take a nap in the warm sun.
”¡Gané!”, dice el sol radiante.
“I win!” says the sun, beaming.
Moraleja: A veces no es el más fuerte el que gana. A veces, logras más con amabilidad y gentileza.
Moral: Sometimes it’s not the strongest who wins. Sometimes you can accomplish more with kindness and gentleness.
