Este es un cuento sobre una gallinita roja.
La gallinita roja vive en una granja. Ella trabaja todo el día sin descanso. Picotea el suelo. Busca lombrices. Se sienta en un arbusto. Y a veces... pone un huevo.
This is a story about a little red hen.
The little red hen lives on a farm. She works all day long, non-stop. (literally: all day without rest). She pecks at the ground. She looks for worms. She sits in a bush. And sometimes... she lays an egg.
La gallinita roja tiene tres amigos: un gato, un perro y un caballo. Estos animales no hacen ningún trabajo.
The little red hen has three friends: a cat, a dog and a horse. These animals don't do any work.
Al gato le gusta dormir tendido al sol. Al perro le gusta echarse a dormir a la sombra. Y al caballo le gusta ver televisión todo el día.
The cat likes to sleep in the sun. (literally: sleep lying in the sun). The dog likes to sleep in the shade. (literally: lie down and sleep in the shade). And the horse likes to watch TV all day long.
Un día, la gallinita roja ve un arbusto de frambuesas.
“¡Frambuesas!”, grita la gallinita. “¡Ñam, ñam, ñam! ¡Podemos hacer un pastel de frambuesas!”
One day, the little red hen sees a raspberry bush.
“Raspberries!” cries the little hen. "Yum Yum Yum! We can make a raspberry cake!”
La gallinita roja corre a contárselo a sus amigos.
"¡Chicos! ¡Hay frambuesas por allá! ¡Podemos hacer un pastel de frambuesas!”
The little red hen runs to tell her friends.
"Guys! There are raspberries over there! We can make a raspberry cake!"
Al perro se le hace agua la boca. "¡¡Genial!!"
El gato se relame los labios. "¡Claro que sí!"
El caballo mueve la cola. "¡Qué buena idea!"
The dog’s mouth waters. "Brilliant!!"
The cat licks its lips. "Of course!"
The horse flicks its tail. "What a good idea!"
“Entonces… ¿Quién quiere ayudarme a recoger las frambuesas?” pregunta la gallinita roja.
“So…Who wants to help me pick the raspberries?” asks the little red hen.
“Yo no”, dice el perro, “estoy muy ocupado”.
“Yo no”, dice el gato, “estoy muy cansado”.
“Yo no”, dice el caballo, “estoy viendo tele”.
"Not me," says the dog, "I'm too busy."
"Not me," says the cat, "I'm too tired."
"Not me," says the horse, "I'm watching TV."
“Entonces lo haré yo sola”, dice la gallinita roja. Así que se pone a recoger las frambuesas, una por una, ella sola.
“Then I will do it myself,” says the little red hen. So she starts picking the raspberries, one by one, all by herself.
“Bien, ahora necesitamos harina, azúcar, leche y mantequilla”, dice la gallinita roja. “¿Quién quiere ayudarme a conseguirlos?”
“Okay, now we need flour, sugar, milk and butter,” says the little red hen. “Who wants to help me get them?”
“Yo no”, dice el perro, “estoy muy ocupado”.
“Yo no”, dice el gato, “estoy muy cansado”.
“Yo no”, dice el caballo, “estoy viendo tele”.
"Not me," says the dog, "I'm too busy."
"Not me," says the cat, "I'm too tired."
"Not me," says the horse, "I'm watching TV."
“Entonces lo haré yo sola”, dice la gallinita roja.
Ella se tiene que ir hasta la despensa y toma la harina y el azúcar. Luego, va hasta nevera y toma la mantequilla y la leche.
“Then I will do it myself,” says the little red hen.
She goes to the pantry and gets the flour and sugar. Then, she goes to the refrigerator and gets the butter and milk.
Luego coloca todo junto en un tazón grande, ella sola.
Then she places everything together in a large bowl, all by herself.
“¿Quién quiere ayudarme a mezclar la masa del pastel?” pregunta la gallinita roja.
“Yo no”, dice el perro, “estoy muy ocupado”.
“Yo no”, dice el gato, “estoy muy cansado”.
“Yo no”, dice el caballo, “estoy viendo tele”.
"Who wants to help me mix the batter?" asks the little red hen.
"Not me," says the dog, "I'm too busy."
"Not me," says the cat, "I'm too tired."
"Not me," says the horse, "I'm watching TV."
"¡Entonces lo haré yo sola!" dice la gallinita roja. Ella bate la masa hasta que queda suave y cremosa. Luego añade con cuidado las frambuesas y las revuelve.
"Then I'll do it myself!" says the little red hen. She beats the batter until it is smooth and creamy. Then she carefully adds the raspberries and stirs them in.
Vierte la masa en un molde para pasteles y lo mete en el horno. Lo hace todo ella sola.
She pours the batter into a cake pan and puts it in the oven. She does everything all by herself.
(Tic tac, tic tac)
Pronto se siente un delicioso aroma que viene de la cocina. El perro puede olerlo. El gato puede olerlo. El caballo también puede olerlo. Todos corren hacia la cocina.
(Tick tock, tick tock)
Soon a delicious aroma is (literally: is sensed/smelled) coming from the kitchen. The dog can smell it. The cat can smell it. The horse can smell it too. Everyone runs to the kitchen.
La gallinita roja saca el pastel del horno. Lo pone en un plato y lo espolvorea con azúcar.
The little red hen takes the cake out of the oven. She puts it on a plate and sprinkles it with sugar.
“¿Quién quiere ayudarme a comer este pastel?” pregunta la gallinita roja.
"¡Yo, yo!" dice el perro.
"¡Yo, yo!" dice el gato.
"¡Yo, yo!" dice el caballo.
“Who wants to help me eat this cake?” asks the little red hen.
"Me, me!" says the dog.
"Me, me!" says the cat.
"Me, me!" says the horse.
“No lo creo”, dice la gallinita roja. "No tuve ayuda para hacer este pastel, así que no necesito ayuda para comerlo".
“I don't think so,” says the little red hen. "I had no help to make this cake, so I don't need help to eat it."
Ella se escapa con el pastel y se come hasta la última miga. Se lo come todo ella sola.
She runs away with the cake and eats every last crumb. She eats it all by herself.
