This is a city mouse. He lives in a large metropolis with tall buildings, with many shops and restaurants. But today he is visiting his friend, a country mouse.

The country mouse lives in a cozy nest at the bottom of a tree. His home is small, but it is warm and comfortable.
El ratón de campo prepara una cena con comida de su huerta: maíz, zanahorias, bellotas y un vaso de agua fría. Mientras tanto, el ratón de ciudad no para de hablar.
The country mouse prepares a dinner with food from his garden (orchard): corn, carrots, acorns, and a cold glass of water. Meanwhile, the city mouse does not stop talking:
“La ciudad es maravillosa. Voy al teatro y al museo. Mi casa tiene VEINTE habitaciones. ¡Tienes que visitarme! ¿Has probado la comida china?”
"The city is amazing. I go to the theatre and the museum... My house has TWENTY rooms! You MUST visit me! Have you ever tried Chinese food?"
Esa noche, el ratón de campo sueña que vive en la ciudad. Sueña que come en los restaurantes lujosos, dice cosas elegantes y compra sombreros a la moda de tiendas de lujo. Se sueña probando comida china.
“¡Qué maravilloso!” piensa. “¡Yo quiero vivir en la ciudad también!”
That night, the country mouse dreams that he lives in the city. He dreams that he eats at fancy restaurants, says fancy things, and buys fashionable hats from fancy stores. He dreams of trying Chinese food.
"How wonderful!" he thinks. "I want to live in the city too!"
A la mañana siguiente, el ratón de campo acepta visitar al ratón de ciudad. Empaca su maleta y regresa con él a su gran casa en la ciudad.
The next morning the country mouse agrees to visit the city mouse. He packs his bag and returns with him to his big house in the city.
¡La casa es enorme¡ Hay veinte habitaciones llenas de muebles hermosos. El ratón de campo está asombrado.
“¿Cuál es mi habitación?” pregunta.
The house is enormous! There are twenty rooms full of beautiful furniture. The country mouse is amazed.
"Which room is mine?" he asks.
“Em… En realidad, nosotros vivimos aquí abajo…” dice el ratón de ciudad y lo conduce por unas escaleras hacia el sótano. En la oscuridad, el ratón de campo ve muchas familias de ratones.
“Estos son mis compañeros de casa…” explica el ratón de ciudad.
"Um... we actually live down here…" says the city mouse, and leads him down some stairs to the basement. In the darkness, the country mouse sees many families of mice.
"These are my housemates…" explains the city mouse.
El ratón de ciudad lleva arriba al ratón de campo para la cena. En el comedor hay un banquete de comidas deliciosas sobre la mesa: queso, pan, galletas, pasteles y refrescos. También hay comida china.
The city mouse leads the country mouse upstairs for dinner. In the dining room there is a feast of delicious foods on the table: cheese, bread, cookies, cakes, and fizzy drinks. There is also Chinese food.
Pero justo en el momento en que empezaban a comer… ¡CATAPLÚM! Un gato con dientes afilados y garras afiladas salta sobre la mesa.
¡¡MAARRRAAAMÁÁUU!!
But right at the moment when they start to eat... CRASH! A cat with sharp teeth and sharp claws jumps up on the table.
REEEEEOWWWW!
El gato de ciudad ahuyenta a los dos ratones de la mesa y los persigue por el piso. Los dos ratones se esconden en un agujero en la pared. Están atrapados.
The city cat chases the two mice off the table and pursues them across the floor. The two mice hide in a hole in the wall. They are trapped.
Esperan silenciosamente hasta que el gato se va. Luego, se arrastran hacia el comedor cuidadosamente, pero ya no hay comida. Los humanos de la ciudad se comieron todo.
They wait silently until the cat leaves. Then, they carefully creep back to the dining room, but there is no food left. The city humans ate everything!
El ratón de campo regresa rápidamente al sótano y empaca su maleta para irse.
“¿Adónde vas?” le pregunta el ratón de ciudad.
The country mouse hurries back to the basement and packs his bag to leave.
"Where are you going?" asks the city mouse.
“A casa”, le dice. “Quiero volver al campo. Tu vida de ciudad no es tan maravillosa después de todo. Ahora, por favor, ayúdame a pedir un taxi".
"Home.” he says. “I want to go back to the country. Your city life isn't so wonderful after all. Now, please, help me to call a taxi."
Moraleja: A veces la vida de otras personas no es tan grandiosa como te lo hacen creer.
Moral: Sometimes other people’s lives are not as great as they make you believe.
