Ein Hund läuft durch die Gassen. Da sieht er neben einem Restaurant einen dicken Knochen im Abfall stecken.
A dog is running through the alleys. Then he sees, outside a restaurant, a big bone (stuck) in the trash.
„Ein Knochen! Ich Glückspilz!“, denkt der Hund. Er schnappt sich den Knochen und läuft damit fröhlich zurück zu sich nach Hause.
“A bone! Lucky me! (lit: lucky mushroom! — common expression)” thinks the dog. He grabs the bone and happily runs with it back towards home.
Er läuft am Bahnhof und an der Schule vorbei. Er läuft durch den Park. Er läuft über eine Brücke.
He runs past the train station and the school. He runs through the park. He runs onto a bridge.
Auf der Brücke schaut der Hund hinunter aufs flache Wasser. Da ist ja noch ein anderer Hund mit einem Knochen im Maul!
On the bridge, the dog looks down at the still water. There is another dog with a bone in his mouth!
„Wer ist denn das?“, fragt er sich. „Und was macht er da unten?“
Der eine Hund starrt den anderen an, und der andere starrt zurück.
“Who is that?” he wonders. "And what is he doing down there?"
One dog stares at the other, and the other stares back.
„Wo hat dieser Hund so einen GROSSEN Knochen bekommen?“, fragt sich der Hund auf der Brücke. „Und warum ist sein Knochen größer als meiner?“
Der eine Hund knurrt den anderen an, und der andere knurrt zurück!
“Where did this dog get such a BIG bone?” asks the dog on the bridge. "And why is his bone bigger than mine?"
One dog growls at the other, and the other growls back!
„Gib den Knochen her!“
Der gierige Hund will dem Hund im Wasser den Knochen wegschnappen, und springt er von der Brücke hinab! Platsch!…
“Give me that bone!”
The greedy dog wants to snatch the bone from the dog in the water, and he leaps off the bridge! Splash!
Aber der Hund im Wasser ist verschwunden! Das war nur sein Spiegelbild!
But the dog in the water has disappeared. It was just his own reflection (lit: mirror image)!
Das Wasser ist tief und kalt. Der Hund bellt überrascht:
„Wau wau wau! Hilfe!“
Dabei fällt ihm der Knochen aus dem Maul und sinkt auf den Grund.
The water is deep and cold. The dog barks in surprise.
“Woof woof woof! Help!”
The bone falls out of his mouth and sinks to the bottom (of the water).
Der Hund schwimmt ans Ufer. Er ist nass und ihm ist kalt, und jetzt hat er überhaupt keinen Knochen.
The dog swims to the bank. He is wet and cold, and now has no bone at all.
Moral: Sei froh mit dem, was du hast. Bist du zu gierig, kannst du alles verlieren.
Moral: Be happy with what you have. If you're too greedy, you can lose everything.
