En el baile del rey, el príncipe estaba muy aburrido.
Se sentía como si hubiera bailado con toda joven del reino. Todas las mujeres vestían hermosos vestidos, pero ninguna de las mujeres era interesante. Ninguna de ellas entendía sus chistes.
At the king’s ball, the prince was very bored.
He felt like he had danced with every girl in the kingdom. All of the ladies were wearing beautiful dresses, but none of the ladies were interesting. None of them understood his jokes.
El príncipe había acabado de bailar con una de las hermanastras de Cenicienta cuando la sala repentinamente se quedó en silencio. Todo el mundo se volvió para mirar mientras la joven más hermosa entraba caminando por la puerta.
The prince had just finished dancing with one of Cinderella's stepsisters when the room suddenly fell silent. Everybody turned to look as the most beautiful girl walked through the door.
Ella tenía el cabello rojo y largo y ojos verdes y bondadosos. Su vestido era plateado. Sus zapatos brillaban, como si estuvieran hechos de cristal. Era Cenicienta, pero nadie la reconoció. ¡Ni siquiera su madrastra y sus hermanastras!
She had long red hair and kind green eyes. Her dress was silver. Her shoes sparkled, like they were made of glass. It was Cinderella, but nobody recognised her. Not even her stepmother and stepsisters!
El príncipe se quedó boquiabierto. Él nunca había visto a una mujer tan bella como Cenicienta. Él le pidió que bailase con él. Ellos bailaron juntos toda la noche. El príncipe pensó que Cenicienta era bella, pero también amable, inteligente y divertida. Ella se reía de sus chistes y él se reía de los de ella.
The prince's mouth dropped (stayed) open. He had never seen a woman as beautiful as Cinderella. He asked her to dance with him. They danced together all evening. The prince thought Cinderella was beautiful, but also kind, clever and funny. She laughed at his jokes, and he laughed at hers.
Cenicienta estaba pasando momentos tan maravillosos que no se dio cuenta de que era tan tarde. El reloj empezó a dar las campanadas de medianoche. Dong… dong… dong…
Cinderella was having such a wonderful time that she didn't notice that it was so late. The clock began to chime midnight (give the midnight chimes).
Dong… dong… dong…
“¡Oh, no! ¡Me tengo que ir!” dijo sorprendida Cenicienta y salió corriendo del salón de baile.
“¡No te vayas! ¡Ni siquiera sé tu nombre!” gritó el príncipe. Pero Cenicienta ya se había ido.
"Oh no! I have to leave!" Cinderella said in surprise, and she ran out of the ballroom.
"Don't go! I don't even know your name!" shouted the prince. But Cinderella was already gone.
Cenicienta huyó del palacio tan rápido que perdió uno de sus zapatos de cristal en las escaleras.
Cuando ella llegó al pie de las escaleras, —¡DONG! —El reloj terminó de dar las doce campanadas de la medianoche.
Cinderella fled from the palace so fast that she lost one of her glass shoes on the stairs.
When she got to the foot of the stairs — DONG! — The clock finished chiming midnight (giving the twelve strokes of midnight).
El hermoso vestido de Cenicienta se convirtió de nuevo en harapos, y su carroza de oro se convirtió de nuevo en un zapallo.
“Ay”, dijo Cenicienta.
Cinderella's beautiful dress turned back into rags, and her golden carriage turned back into a pumpkin.
"Drat," said Cinderella.
Justo en ese momento, vio al príncipe que corría hacia ella, sosteniendo el zapato de cristal que se le había caído. Ella no quería que él la viera vestida con sus sucios y viejos harapos. Se sentía avergonzada, ¡pero no había ningún sitio donde ocultarse!
Just then (in this moment), she saw the prince running towards her, holding the glass shoe that had fallen. She did not want him to see her dressed in her dirty old rags. She felt ashamed, but there was no place to hide!
“Discúlpeme, señorita”, dijo él jadeando. “¿Vio usted adónde fue esa chica hermosa? ¡Este es su zapato! ¡Debo encontrarla!”
¡El príncipe no reconoció a Cenicienta sin su hermosa ropa!
"Excuse me, miss," he said, panting. "Did you see where that beautiful girl went? This is her shoe! I must find her!"
The prince didn’t recognise Cinderella without her beautiful clothes!
Cenicienta negó con la cabeza. El príncipe se fue corriendo para continuar su búsqueda. Cenicienta anduvo todo el camino a casa.
Cinderella shook her head. The prince ran off to continue his search. Cinderella walked all the way home.
